Headmaster’s Welcome

Welcome to Kingswood House, a leading co-educational school up to GCSE. We offer an all-round education, underpinned by exciting curricular and co-curricular opportunities, with a strong emphasis on character development and preparation for life beyond the school gate, befitting of the 21st century.

The KHS Way

At Kingswood House, there is a philosophy of inclusivity, tolerance and respect. All pupils are encouraged to participate in every aspect of school life and this provides a wonderful platform for them to grow in resilience and self-esteem. A rich variety of opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, engenders an avid natural curiosity and propagates a willingness to try new things. This website captures the very essence of KHS but please do come and see us for yourself; the warmth and friendliness of our school community is best experienced first-hand. You can also register for the next Open Morning or book an individual appointment to meet with me and tour the school. I look forward to welcoming you to Kingswood House.

Duncan Murphy, Headmaster

Profile of the Headmaster

Duncan is the Headmaster at Kingswood House, Epsom, prior to which he was the Headmaster of the Prep School at Claremont Fan Court and the Deputy Headmaster at Milbourne Lodge. Educated at Malvern College before undertaking a degree in English Literature at Sheffield and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership at Buckingham, he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a renowned specialist in respect of strategic diversification for schools. In recent years, he has overseen a successful evolution of the school to extend its provision up to GCSE as well as a move to co-education.
Duncan is married to Victoria, who runs the Christopher Robin Nursery in Hinchley Wood. They have a busy household comprising: two older children, Jasmin and Jack, who have both finished their studies and are in the world of work; a younger son, William, who attends Epsom College, and their dogs, Cally & Lilly, a black Labrador and a Cocker Spaniel respectively who keep everyone on their toes! Duncan enjoys all sports, especially cricket, and likes to keep abreast of current affairs and politics. As an English teacher by trade, he retains a fundamental love of literature and one of his quirkier secrets is that he is a member of the Sherlock Holmes Society.

Kingswood House reached the final of the prestigious Independent School of the Year award in 2021, having also been short-listed in 2018, and won the National Best School Trip award in 2019. The school has also been short-listed for an award for social mobility in 2022. It is a source of great pride that the wonderful 'all-round' attributes of a Kingswood House education are consistently recognised by objective panels of esteemed judges.
