Year 7 Sky Skills Studio

Breaking News at Sky News…..

On the first morning of term Year 7 had the opportunity to tour the impressive new headquarters of Sky News before making their very own news broadcast. The boys were shown how programmes were made, visited various studios and got the opportunity to see inside the Sky Sports Studio where a programme was going out live. The place was buzzing with activity; huge screens showed what was happening on various sky channels, giant posters advertised new shows and the boys got the chance to recognise sports stars and presenters as they came and went.

The main aim of the morning was to make a new broadcast about the Japanese tsunami which occurred in 2011. Sky have built a suite of four small studios in which the boys wrote scripts, presented, produced, directed and filmed separate  items that were edited together to produce one five minute news broadcast. They really worked well together and thoroughly enjoyed the experience particularly appearing in front of a green screen which enabled the boys to appear as if they were speaking in a studio or somewhere in Japan. The finished broadcast looked great and the boys were all given copies of it as a memory of a fantastic trip. This trip was part of their geography syllabus and the finished broadcast will form part of Year Seven’s multimedia exhibition, ‘The Restless Earth’ that can be seen in Langlands between 26-28 February.
