Last night saw the first steps of a new era for KHS we held our first ever Year 9 Information Evening.
Parents and their sons, who are our pioneers, listened to a presentation by Mr Marler outlining the new initiatives for our Senior Years. The boys were particularly excited to hear that they will be trusted to visit town and to retain their phones whilst in school, all part of a Senior Rewards and Sanctions system. They were also hugely enthusiastic with the opportunity to be the first year group to be given iPads to support their studies.
The curriculum, including sports, has been timetabled to introduce new opportunities much earlier in the academic year – the benefit of knowing these boys and establishing teaching groups without the need for assessment.
Kingswood House will be one of the first schools in the country to offer the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme to Year 9. We have a sailing course (we have our own boat) and a climbing course planned – all activities that will enable our boys to do something that will benefit them in later life.
We have planned a series of lectures for the boys ranging in topic from motivation, sport and careers. The first could well be a debate about ‘driverless cars’, involving the man behind the initiative.
All the boys were excited to be part of the new Senior Years and relished the idea they were very privileged to be the first to experience this new adventure. They loved the idea of a cross curricular trip, perhaps in the first weeks of term (September 2016), to explore Britain, its culture, history and democracy plus the bonus of being in the Lake District to study poetry!
We are delighted with the start of our journey, why not join us?
