Study Centre

As a school we pride ourselves on being small enough to appreciate and consider the needs of each individual, to recognise and challenge their strengths and support their weaknesses.

Kingswood House has had a Study Centre for many years (Special Needs Unit) with specialist tutors and Speech and Language therapists to meet specific learning difficulties and give appropriate support. Study Centre specialists work closely with classroom staff and parents to provide 1:1 or small group tuition. Our specialists share their expertise with classroom staff by working alongside them and as part of the INSET programme. This helps to break down barriers, build self-confidence and self-esteem to aid progress and help pupils to achieve their full potential.

More recent provision has been that of occupational therapy to support handwriting and co-ordination difficulties. There is a Computer Gym/ Touch Typing Club that provides specialist tuition in touch-typing. In addition, when required, there is an Occupational Therapy Club that offers group support, teaching exercises to promote listening, concentration and co-ordination, etc. While ESOL (English for Speakers of Our Language) does not come under SEN, the Study Centre has two qualified tutors for this field.
