Nursery & Kindergarten
A child can enter our Nursery Department from three years of age. On joining, each child will be expected to attend Nursery for a minimum of three mornings on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Kindergarten children will be expected to attend for a minimum of five mornings a week in the Autumn Term, rising to at least three full days and two mornings by the Spring Term, and this will continue into the Summer Term. We would advise the full day sessions will initially be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Space permitting, there will be an opportunity to take up places on extra mornings/afternoons and to remain for lunch until 1pm if you wish. Children can join at any time of the year if there is a place available.
Years 1 & 2
Before entry to Years 1 or 2, all children are given the opportunity to spend a day in school where they will be informally assessed.
Years 3 to 8
For entry to Years 3 - 8, boys will spend a day with their current year group and are given an informal assessment to allow us to place them in the most appropriate form. This assessment takes the form of non-verbal reasoning, reading and spelling tests with some number work.
Boys can enter the School at any time during the school year if there is a place available. If a child has a learning difficulty, a further special needs specialist may be involved.
We hold a 6+ Scholarship Exam every November for entry into Year 3 the following September. If a scholarship is offered, the pupil may start sooner. This exam is open to children both at Kingswood House and at other schools, and is awarded to pupils who show outstanding ability in several subjects.
