Introduction
Children join the Nursery at Kingswood House during the term that they are three years old. They then move onto Kindergarten in the September after their third birthday. For uniform, Nursery and Kindergarten children are expected to wear white KHS polo tops, green Kingswood House tracksuits and black school shoes.
In Nursery, we aim to settle your child into a regular routine to enable them to feel part of a group and to provide a happy and positive learning environment. To establish a good routine, Nursery children start with a minimum of three sessions on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Children of this age learn through play and we aim to provide meaningful experiences that stimulate interest and develop independence, social skills and physical co-ordination.
In Kindergarten, the children build and consolidate early learning through social interaction, exploration and first-hand experience. Activities are planned to develop language, pre-reading skills, number recognition, imagination and creativity.
In Reception, our main focus in language work is to build and consolidate a knowledge and recognition of letter sounds. We use two reading schemes and our timetable is also full of creative activities that promote the fine manipulative skills needed for writing. Children are required to wear full school uniform from the beginning of the Reception year.

Events
We made regular educational trips out of school throughout the year. These are planned to support the topical work taking place in the classroom. Over the past year, the children have visited Godstone and Garson's Farms, The Polka Children's Theatre, Bracknell Lookout Science Park, Polesden Lacey, the local pet shop, Nower Wood, Bourne Hall Museum, the Fire Station, Bodiam Castle and The Florence Nightingale Museum.
We have authors, book fairs and theatre companies visiting the School and we celebrate Book Week each year. In the Summer Term, we have Sports Day and a swimming gala. We also host a Mini Olympics and hold football tournaments throughout the year competing against local schools.
The House System
Every pupil is allocated a House when they join the School. There are four Houses: Drake (yellow), Marlborough (green), Nelson (red) and Wellington (blue). House stars and commendations are awarded for good work and effort. Children can receive star badges that are worn on their blazers.
Parents' Evenings & Reports
You will be invited to discuss your child's progress with their class teacher every term. A full written report will be sent home at the end of the academic year for Nursery and Kindergarten children. Children in Reception and Key Stage 1 will receive reports at the end of the Autumn and Summer Term.
Open House
This is for children in Reception and Key Stage 1. Each term, parents and carers are invited to visit their child's class. Open House is very popular with the children who take great pride in their work. This event is usually on a Thursday afternoon at 3:15pm. Specific dates are shown on the School Calendar. |
